Ficomontanino is located in the Colli Senesi sub-zone to the south of Chianti, in the heart of the Siena Hills. Often considered the most of important of all the Chianti communes outside the Classico zone (it has its own DOCG with strict regulations that demand lower yields), it is home to some of Tuscany’s most famous wines - Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile de Montepulciano. It is also particularly renowned for producing Chiantis of great smoothness and depth.
The winery itself is now in the hands of the third generation of the Giannelli family, who are fastidious about ensuring their part of this historical region continues to flourish. Both Chiantis are an alluring expression of the terroir of the Colli Senesi and represent outstanding value. The Riserva indicates extended ageing - in this case 12 months in French oak, with a further 18 in bottle, allowing the unique richness and elegance of the wine to develop.
