Colmar Estate Orange, NSW
Available : NSW / QLD / VIC'A new star in the Orange galaxy'
A cycling trip through France, and in particular the wine regions of Burgundy and Alsace, was the inspiration for the founding of Colmar Estate in Orange, New South Wales. At 980m above sea level the vineyards are amongst the highest in Australia, making it the perfect location for the production of classic, northern French-style wines.
La Moche 2021 - Gold Medal, 95 Points, James Halliday's Wine Companion
"An Edelzwicker sort of quasi-field blend that is so delicious, it feels as it were merely delivered from the vineyard – a righteous meld of variety, clonal material, handling and geology – rather than made... A match made in heaven... Rosewater, orange verbena, grape spice, lychee and tarte tatin, but pear rather than apple. A trail of cinnamon and star anise, fuelled by natural acidity, a sweep of residual sugar (barely detectable) and moxie, lingering long. Fine." Ned Goodwin
Block 5 Riesling 2021 - Gold Medal, 96 Points, James Halliday's Wine Companion
"This producer is becoming a tour de force of fizz and riesling. A pure, intensely flavoured expression of such filigreed structure, a testimony. It makes me want to eat schnitzel or any array of washed cheeses, so fresh and juicy is the acidity, impeccably placated with a gentle sweet wash. A kernel of lime, jasmine and quince paste skitters across the energetic finish. Impressive length and driving persistence. Very fine." Ned Goodwin
